The Shawville Men’s Fastpitch League wrapped up their season at Elwood Dale Park on Tuesday night (Sept. 2), with a showdown between The Royals and the Hursty’s Bar and Grill Athletics.
Over a hard-fought game, the Royals prevailed 4-2 to claim the John Atkinson Memorial trophy, with pitcher Adam Rueckwald also being awarded Playoff MVP by league organizer Matt Greer.
“He’s just a great hitter and a dominant pitcher,” Greer said.
Royals’ captain Hunter Beauregard said that he was pleased with his team’s performance this year.
“It’s a great feeling, I mean to do it with this group of guys is pretty sweet,” he said. “Just a great group of guys, we’ve battled all year and pulled through in the finals [ . . . ] Hats off to these guys, great season.”
Greer explained that there has historically been a town ball league, and that this current iteration was revived back in 2014. He thanked all the participants for their support over the years to keep things going.
“Thanks to you guys for committing to the league and keeping this thing going. Joe McCleary started it in 2014, so we’re in our 11th year. It’s great to have fastpitch locally.”

Au terme d’un match âprement disputé, les Royals se sont imposés 4-2 pour remporter le trophée commémoratif John Atkinson, le lanceur Adam Rueckwald ayant également été nommé Joueur le plus utile des séries éliminatoires par l’organisateur de la ligue, Matt Greer.
« C’est un excellent frappeur et un lanceur dominant », a déclaré Greer.
Le capitaine des Royals, Hunter Beauregard, s’est dit satisfait de la performance de son équipe cette année.
« C’est une sensation formidable, je veux dire, le faire avec ce groupe de gars, c’est vraiment génial », a-t-il dit. « C’est un super groupe de gars, nous nous sommes battus toute l’année et nous avons réussi à nous imposer en finale [ . . . ] Chapeau bas à ces gars, excellente saison. »
Greer a expliqué qu’il y a toujours eu une ligue de balle municipale, et que cette version actuelle a été relancée en 2014. Il a remercié tous les participants pour leur soutien au fil des ans afin de maintenir l’activité.
« Merci à vous tous de vous être engagés dans la ligue et d’avoir maintenu cette activité. Joe McCleary l’a lancée en 2014, nous en sommes donc à notre 11e année. C’est formidable d’avoir de la balle rapide localement. »
