Organizers of the third annual Maurice Bearegard 3-pitch ball tournament have donated the $10,000 raised at this year’s event to the Municipality of Campbell’s Bay to support its work resurfacing the tennis and pickleball courts.
Members of the late Beauregard’s family gathered at the courts with Campbell’s Bay councillors and its mayor on Aug. 6 for a photo to honour the donation.
The court resurfacing work, which was completed in mid-June, was the latest project the tournament has financially supported at the Maurice Beauregard Park in Campbell’s Bay.
Over the tournament’s three years, it has donated a total of $34,000 to the municipality for park upkeep and improvements, as well as set aside additional funds for three annual bursaries for students from the local high schools.
The tournament was originally created to honour the memory of the former Campbell’s Bay mayor, councillor and firefighter Maurice Beauregard, who passed away three years ago after a battle with cancer.
“Maurice Beauregard always believed in community spirit [and] community commitment, and what better way to demonstrate that than through the Maurice Beauregard Memorial Baseball tournament every year,” said Campbell’s Bay mayor Raymond Pilon.
Councillor Jean-Pierre Landry added that when he is through the park to water plants, he enjoys seeing it being well used and kept in great condition. “I have a thought for Maurice every time,” he said.
Beauregard was an advocate for ensuring there were activities for people of all ages in the community and the park, said Kelly McMahon-Beauregard, his wife, who organizes the tournament every year.
She said it was because of his efforts that there are horseshoe pits in the park, an activity that anyone can participate in, regardless of age.
She explained that through these donations to the municipality on behalf of the tournament, his efforts to support the community can be continued.

Le conseiller Jean-Pierre Landry a ajouté que lorsqu’il traverse le parc pour arroser les plantes, il aime le voir bien utilisé et maintenu en excellent état. « J’ai une pensée pour Maurice chaque fois », a-t-il dit.
Beauregard était un défenseur de l’accès à des activités pour les personnes de tous âges dans la communauté et le parc, a déclaré Kelly McMahon-Beauregard, sa femme, qui organise le tournoi chaque année.
Elle a dit que c’était grâce à ses efforts qu’il y a des terrains de fer à cheval dans le parc, une activité à laquelle tout le monde peut participer, quel que soit l’âge.
Elle a expliqué que grâce à ces dons faits à la municipalité au nom du tournoi, ses efforts pour soutenir la communauté peuvent être poursuivis.
