There were four minor car accidents on Highway 148 between Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, none resulting in serious injuries but all a reminder to be vigilant on the roads, according to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sergeant Marc Tessier.

Most recently, on the evening of Monday, Jan. 27, an empty TransporAction bus heading westbound slid off the highway into a ditch in Bristol. The driver said high winds and blowing snow caused him to lose control of the vehicle “in a fraction of a second.” There were no injuries.

On Friday morning, a two-car accident occurred on Highway 148 in Clarendon. According to Tessier, one driver drove into the back of the vehicle in front of them, both driving in the same direction, likely due to a lack of visibility caused by direct sunlight. One person with minor injuries was sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

A single-vehicle accident on Thursday morning in Bryson occurred when a driver lost control of the car and slid into the ditch near Motel Bryson, according to Tessier. The driver, suffering only minor injuries, refused to be taken to the hospital.

Finally, as previously reported by THE EQUITY, the first accident of the week occurred the morning of Monday, Jan. 20 near Campbell Road in Bristol when one westbound vehicle drove into two other westbound vehicles that had stopped to let a truck back into a driveway. Four of the five people involved were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

“The third vehicle could have possibly been blinded by the sun and may not have seen that the vehicles were stopped,” Tessier said at the time.

“When you have the sun directly in front of you, you still have to be aware of your surroundings and take some steps to try to divert the sun from hitting you directly,” Tessier told THE EQUITY in a call on Jan. 27, suggesting sunglasses and making use of the car’s visor.
