A group of artists and art lovers gathered at Café 349 in Shawville on Aug. 14 to celebrate this month’s exhibit titled Reflections on Water, on display at the café.
The exhibit brings together the works of nine Ottawa Valley artists that somehow depict or offer their reflections on their own connections to the water.
Pieces were created using a variety of media, including acrylic and oil paints, linocuts, gelli plates, and fibres.
This exhibit, which will run until Aug. 30, is the latest the Café is hosting in its gallery space. Each month, the artwork carefully hung inside Café 349 changes.
It’s an opportunity for artists to showcase their work and potentially sell it, while simultaneously providing art for the cafe, said Cheryl Beillard, who manages the gallery alongside Linda Roy.
The monthly shows are a mix of collaborative or individual shows. Depending on the artist’s wishes, they will host a vernissage, a viewing of the paintings, at the café.
This month marked the pair’s one-year anniversary of organizing the initiative together, a continuation of a program started by artPontiac.
Roy said this group offers opportunities for the artists and the community in a number of ways, highlighting that last May, they were approached by the Pontiac Archives, which had recently found a number of decades-old graduation photos from Pontiac High School. They then hung the photos on the walls of the café for a month.
Un groupe d’artistes et d’amateurs d’art s’est réuni au Café 349 à Shawville le 14 août pour célébrer l’exposition de ce mois-ci, intitulée «Reflections on Water», présentée au café.
L’exposition rassemble les œuvres de neuf artistes de la Vallée de l’Outaouais qui, d’une manière ou d’une autre, représentent ou offrent leurs réflexions sur leurs propres liens avec l’eau.
Les œuvres ont été créées en utilisant une variété de médiums, y compris des peintures acryliques et à l’huile, des linogravures, des plaques gelli et des fibres.
Cette exposition, qui se tiendra jusqu’au 30 août, est la dernière que le Café accueille dans son espace galerie. Chaque mois, les œuvres d’art soigneusement accrochées à l’intérieur du Café 349 changent.
C’est une occasion pour les artistes de présenter leur travail et potentiellement de le vendre, tout en fournissant simultanément de l’art pour le café, a déclaré Cheryl Beillard, qui gère la galerie aux côtés de Linda Roy.
Les expositions mensuelles sont un mélange d’expositions collaboratives ou individuelles. Selon les souhaits de l’artiste, ils organiseront un vernissage, une présentation des tableaux, au café.
Ce mois-ci a marqué le premier anniversaire du duo à organiser cette initiative ensemble, une continuation d’un programme lancé par artPontiac.
Roy a déclaré que ce groupe offre des opportunités aux artistes et à la communauté de plusieurs façons, soulignant qu’en mai dernier, ils ont été approchés par les Archives du Pontiac, qui avaient récemment trouvé un certain nombre de photos de fin d’études datant de plusieurs décennies du Pontiac High School. Ils ont ensuite accroché les photos sur les murs du café pendant un mois.
