On Saturday, rue Baume in Fort-Coulonge was packed with people and vendor booths for the annual Village en fête.
Organizer Danelle Bourque said that she organizes the event on her own and has been working to put everything together since May. She said that though it’s her second year at the helm, she had some experience with the operations when her mother ran the event.
“This is my second year, but when I was really young, my mom used to do it for over five years, so when I was a kid I used to do some volunteer work at this event, so I’m pretty familiar with it,” she said.
The event saw over 25 vendors spread out down the main street, selling everything from jewelry and crafts to baked goods and poutine. Children were encouraged to collect stamps from each of the kiosks in exchange for a prize.
On top of the action on the street, there was a large car show in the parking lot of St-Pierre church, with dozens of vehicles of all makes and models on display. Spiderman and the Little Mermaid made appearances to take photos with the youngsters and Echo the clown was up to his usual shenanigans. Local musicians JR and the Gator entertained the crowd from noon until 3 p.m.
Samedi, la rue Baume à Fort-Coulonge était bondée de gens et de kiosques de marchands pour l’événement annuel Village en fête.
L’organisatrice Danelle Bourque a indiqué qu’elle organise l’événement seule et qu’elle travaille à tout mettre en place depuis mai. Elle a ajouté que bien que ce soit sa deuxième année à la barre, elle avait déjà une certaine expérience des opérations lorsque sa mère dirigeait l’événement.
« C’est ma deuxième année, mais quand j’étais très jeune, ma mère l’a fait pendant plus de cinq ans, donc quand j’étais enfant, je faisais du bénévolat lors de cet événement, je suis donc assez familière avec ça », a-t-elle dit.
L’événement a accueilli plus de 25 marchands répartis le long de la rue principale, vendant de tout, des bijoux et de l’artisanat aux pâtisseries et à la poutine. Les enfants étaient invités à collectionner des timbres à chacun des kiosques en échange d’un prix.
En plus de l’animation dans la rue, il y avait une grande exposition de voitures dans le stationnement de l’église St-Pierre, avec des dizaines de véhicules de toutes marques et de tous modèles exposés. Spiderman et la Petite Sirène ont fait des apparitions pour prendre des photos avec les jeunes et Echo le clown s’adonnait à ses pitreries habituelles. Les musiciens locaux JR and the Gator ont diverti la foule de midi à 15 h.
