The body of a man from Mansfield-et-Pontefract who has been missing since June has been recovered.

On Aug. 13, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported Jérome Hérault was found deceased in the woods near Jim’s Lake on Aug. 12 by a group of hunters. There is no evidence of foul play, and an investigation is underway in collaboration with the coroner.

Hérault, 66, was last seen on the morning of June 15 on his four-wheeler with his dog in a wooded section of the municipality.

After an extensive search of the area near Hérault’s residence on rue Monseigneur Pilon, including by ATV, with the SQ canine unit, by horse, by drone and by helicopter for two days, police called off the ground search on June 24.

SQ spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier said police have no information about what happened to Hérault’s dog.

“Out of respect for the deceased and his loved ones, no further information will be released at this time,” police said.
