Residents intending to run in the upcoming byelection for seat 4 on Chichester’s municipal council have until Aug. 21 to submit their nomination papers.
The seat was left vacant when councillor Chrissy Payne resigned from the position in July to pursue a new opportunity in Toronto. She was in her second term, elected by acclamation in both 2021 and 2025.
Candidates can submit their papers at the municipal office, located at 75 rue Notre-Dame in Chapeau, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays. On Aug. 21, the final day of the nomination period, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Candidate eligibility requirements can be found on the municipality’s website.
The advance poll will be Sept. 13 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and election day will be Sept. 20. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with voting taking place at town hall.
Eligible electors who live outside the municipality and wish to vote by mail, or who wish to vote from their home or their room at a recognized healthcare facility must apply to do so by Sept. 8, 2026.

Les candidats peuvent déposer leurs documents au bureau municipal, situé au 75, rue Notre-Dame, à Chapeau, de 9 h à 12 h et de 13 h à 16 h, du lundi au jeudi, et de 9 h à 12 h, le vendredi. Le 21 août, dernier jour de la période de mise en candidature, il sera ouvert de 9 h à 16 h 30.

Le vote par anticipation aura lieu le 13 septembre, de 12 h à 20 h, et le jour du scrutin sera le 20 septembre, de 10 h à 20 h, le vote ayant lieu à l’hôtel de ville.
Les électeurs admissibles qui résident à l’extérieur de la municipalité et qui souhaitent voter par correspondance, ou qui souhaitent voter depuis leur domicile ou leur chambre dans un établissement de santé reconnu, doivent en faire la demande d’ici le 8 septembre 2026.
