Outdoor activities are coming back as spring ziplines into the Pontiac. For some local adventure Chutes Coulonge Adventure Park announced it is now open and will be introducing some local initiatives as well as some upgrades for the community to enjoy.
The director of the park, André Piché, noted the park is one of . . .
the major tourist attractions in the area and spring is a great time to provide a fun environment for locals. They usually open around Easter when they hold their annual Easter egg hunt, which brings many to the park, Piché said, but with Easter a little later this year they thought they would welcome people in sooner.
“It’s kind of a reboot to spring whenever we open up and people start getting out again,” said Piché.
People can expect new additions to the obstacle
courses and for anyone who doesn’t want to do the big zipline and just enjoy the via ferrata climbing path, there is a package called pure via. They also plan to upgrade the parking lot to accommodate more people, and the main lookout will also get renovated.
To celebrate local producers, Piché told THE EQUITY that this year they are opening up the Pontiac Boutique to everyone in the Pontiac. The boutique will be held in the main cottage area of the park and will feature various artisans from the region.
“We want to be the hub where people come in, and when people want to know what to do here, we let them know,” he said. In order to do that they plan to organize a binder with all the local companies, activities and lodging in the whole county.
He felt that over the years there has been a switch to more collaboration with local companies and people working together to promote each other. Piché hopes the boutique allows people to spend more time in the Pontiac whether it be lodging, eating, or discovering local products.
“It’s winner winner, chicken dinner at the end of the day,” said Piché. “It’s all just locals working with locals to try and get stuff done and keep people here and discover the beauty of the area.”
In regards to tourism, he has noticed that many people from Gatineau are starting to discover the region and noticed that since the pandemic started there has been a stronger shift to nature.
Piché looks forward to the snow fully melting and for people to just come out and enjoy what they have to offer and for more people to come and discover the area. “The big picture is the more people that see how beautiful it is and see that costs can be much lower to operate here, it’s a possibility to make this place boom again.”
