The Annual holiday food drive is an exciting time of year at Pontiac High School.
Partnering with Bouffe Pontiac, the food drive provides both students and staff with an excellent opportunity to support a local charity in need.
With a student population representing various communities in the . . .
Pontiac region, this initiative allows students to support friends, families and neighbours from their local communities.
In keeping with the spirit of the holiday season, the food drive teaches students about the significance of giving back and supporting charitable organizations when they are able to do so.
When asked about the importance of the food drive, PHS student, Niomi Chartrand said, “Pontiac High School’s food drive supports individuals and household food access. One can, five cans, ten cans, anything can help an individual in need.”
PHS student, Tori Benoit, added that the food drive “is important because we give to those people who are struggling to put food on their table. It is important to not always look at ourselves, but to look around us.”
The PHS Student Government, alongside a team of dedicated student volunteers, proudly promote the annual holiday food drive; however, the success of such a massive undertaking is a school-wide effort.
Each PHS student is a member of an advisory that meets daily for twenty minutes. Advisories consist of students from Grades 7-11 and a staff advisor. All working together, each advisory contributes to the overall success of the food drive.
As a school community, it is understood that the food drive can have a tremendous impact on local families in need and if able to do so, it is important to give back to the communities that so generously support Pontiac High School throughout the school year.
In December of 2020, PHS donated 743.5 kg of non-perishable items and $612 in cash to Bouffe Pontiac. This year, PHS hopes to match the success of 2020.
