Congratulations to Mike McCrank for jumping in to run for warden. We will be going to the polls once again to vote for our municipal councils and Pontiac’s Warden. It is a busy time of year for everyone.

I’m writing this on Monday so today is Election Day and I don’t know what the results are going to be but it sure is a neck in neck race.

I just pulled everything out of the garden. I feel relieved to see it finished because it was a long, hot summer and it was hard to get the veggies growing. So many people I talked to had horrible cucumbers. They said they’d start growing then turn into little balls. My first planting didn’t take so I had to plant the second time around the second week of June. I guess that was a good time to plant because I had the most beautiful, long, slim cukes.

Some people had no beans or very little and others had bumper crops. I know that a lot depends on your soil but the big thing is water. The garden always does best with nature’s rain but sometimes we have to help it out. I was fortunate to have everything do well except for my tomato plant. It was a big healthy plant with hundreds of blossoms but not a single tomato grew on it. I have never seen that before. Other people have an abundance of tomatoes and I had none. That’s a first for me, a very strange growing year.

The fourth wave is here and yes, I mean here in the Pontiac. Be careful. Keep vigilant and keep your masks on and wash your hands. Stay home if you’re ill. Some double vaccinated people have gotten COVID but they were only mildly affected. The vaccine is working but there are still a lot of nonbelievers who have to be convinced. Don’t wait until it kills one of your own family members.

Now we all have to show proof of double vaccine to get into certain establishments. You can go to Campbell’s Bay R.A. and get a copy of your vaccine record.

Fall is here and to start it off, its calling for rain for the next five days. It is time to get ready for winter. Put the garden and lawn tools away and get out the snow shovels. Put the garden to bed, clean out the flower beds and do the last lawn mowing.

I’m busy making apple and pumpkin pies. They’ll be ready by end of week. You can order ahead because I’m only making a limited amount this year.

There was a bear spotted on Borden Street in Campbell’s Bay a few weeks ago and now a cougar close to town, so be careful on your walks.
