LITCHFIELD April 13, 2019
On April 13, the Litchfield Leisure Committee (LLC) invited the community to try out delicious pastries as it hosted its third annual bake sale.
Organized by the LLC, the event was held to raise funds for a new play structure to be placed at the Halte in Litchfield.
Set to be built this summer, the structure will feature a mini climbing wall for kids. Plus, new chairs and swing-sets will be added to the playground.
With the structure already ordered, all that remains to be purchased is the sand for the playground, according to LLC member Kristen Morin.
In its three years of existence, the bake sale has consistently been a popular event among people in the community. The simplicity of it along with its profitability make it an easy decision to host every year, Morin said.
“It’s really an easy way to raise funds,” she said. “It’s very profitable. The first ones we did we raised over $1,000.”
Among the delicious goodies available were pies, cookies and peanut-butter chocolate squares, including many more.
All the pastries were either baked by LLC members or donated by people in the community, Morin said.
With help from the municipality and countless donations, the LLC has raised over $20,000 since being established, according to LLC member Jenna Pilon.
For Pilon the overwhelming support from her community has been one of the main reasons why the group keeps working on bringing more activities to the young people of Litchfield.
“Our community has been very supportive,” said Pilon. “It’s unreal. We’ve been active for three years and we’ve raised over $20,000 with fundraisers and donations. It’s what makes us want to keep going.”
For LLC member Courtney Harris, adding a new play structure to the municipality is an important step towards making Litchfield a place for parents to bring their kids.
“Litchfield doesn’t have anything else,” said Harris. “And this is something that will bring families together. We’re going to have birthday parties and events and we’ll finally have a great place to bring our kids in the summer.”
The third annual bake sale tallied up a total of $600 for the new play structure, according to Harris.
