Though the weather was chilly, more than a dozen children and some pets came out to Maurice Beauregard Park in Campbell’s Bay for the second annual bike parade on Saturday.
Put on by community group the Parent Hive, the event featured face-painting and treats courtesy of the Shawville 4-H Club as well as a barbecue put on by the Pontiac Lions Club.
Organizer Chanelle Shea said that new this year, participants could dress up one of their pets as well as their bicycles. She said the Parent Hive, made up of a handful of local moms (and a grandmother), wanted to promote community involvement and socializing.
“It’s just the community coming together to do something free for the kids. That’s something we really value for the Parent Hive,” she said. “We want free things to get kids out and build community, meet one another.”
She added that though they are located in the Bay, anyone is welcome to attend their events.
“We just do fundraisers and activities to raise money for our communities. It’s not just Campbell’s Bay, we invite everyone to come out, Mansfield, Shawville, wherever you are,” she added.
The youngsters barely waited for an official start before barreling down the hill beside the park, with balloons and decorations streaming behind their bikes.
