CAMPBELL’S BAY Dec. 13, 2017
Staff, students, volunteers and friends gathered at the office of the Western Quebec Literacy Council (WQLC) in Campbell’s Bay on Dec. 13 for a wine and cheese social to mark the holidays.
The WQLC is a non-profit group that works to improve access to literacy programs and tutors across the entire Outaouais region, from Hull to Maniwaki and Sheenboro.
Executive director Michèle Gagnon, who took the reins from long-time director Marilee Delombard earlier this year, said that they average about 25 students per year, mostly young people looking to get their high school diploma.
She said they have tutors scattered all over the region, but the were always on the lookout for more.
In addition to staff and students, Gagnon said they also invited many of the groups that they partner with in the community, such as Bouffe Pontiac or Le Jardin éducatif du Pontiac, who filled the office space to near capacity.
Gagnon said that the goal this year would be to offer more activities, as well as putting on some family literacy events as well.
