On Saturday, members of the Shawville Curling and Squash Club got together for the club’s last ‘spiel of 2018.
The “funspiel” brought out six teams to fill the sheets, and curlers of all ages participated throughout the day. Hogline Curling had their mobile proshop set up and many attendees took the opportunity to snag some flashy new shoes and brooms.

Instead of a standard eight-end game, teams played in six-end “skins” games, where ends are counted as single points, instead of scoring rocks.
Following the first round there was a closest to the button contest where sharpshooters tested their precision, firing stones into an open house.
The winner of the closest to the button contest was Roger Younge and the winning team was made up of Ian MacKechnie, Andrew Simms, Donna Simms and Angela Sally.
The next bonspiel in the club’s schedule is the Farmer’s Bonspiel on Jan. 5.
