On Friday, staff and students from Pontiac High School (PHS) gathered at the R.A. field in Shawville for a PD Day softball tournament. This is the fourth year the tournament has run and 70 students from grades seven to 11 participated.
Organizer and teacher, Brenda Davis, explained that the students were divided into five teams, each coached by a teacher with Jeremy Wouda behind the plate as umpire. The format was double-elimination, with the final game wrapping up around 2:30 in the afternoon.
A barbecue was held throughout the day, with all the proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. In the end, Philip Sweezey’s team came out victorious, earning bragging rights for the year.
Davis said that the turnout was excellent and added that everyone will be looking forward to a student vs. staff all-star game, the date for which will be announced in the coming weeks.
