On Feb 28, a 55-year-old woman was injured by a piece of ice that punctured her windshield while driving, according to the police report.

At approximately 8:20 p.m. eastbound on Highway 148 in the Luskville area, a piece of ice broke . . .

off from an oncoming vehicle, they believe it was a pickup truck that struck the victim’s windshield. Despite suffering injuries to her face, the woman was able to stop her vehicle on the side of the road and call emergency services.

According to the police investigation, it is believed that the person driving the other vehicle was not aware of the incident and hence did not stop to assist the victim.

The police said as of March 7 nobody came forward and there has not been any further investigation into the case.

“What we’re seeing is people are leaving in a rush, they don’t take time to remove all the ice, all the snow from their vehicle for different reasons,” said Sgt. Martin Fournel, of MRC des Collines Police

He advises everyone to take the time and ensure there isn’t any ice on the top of their car as that is the law, the fine can go up to $109.

In their Facebook post on March 1, they put a call out in case the person recognized themselves to come forward, “It’s not our intention to give you a fine at this moment because we don’t believe it’s a criminal offense because there was no intention,” he said.

The incident took place approximately one kilometre west of the four lanes, in front of 3152 Highway 148. The police department invites any other person with information to reach out by contacting 819-459-9911 or 1-888-459-9911.
