SHAWVILLE Sept. 20, 2019
On Friday night, the Shawville RA was packed with country music fans eager to hear . . .
Shania Twain’s iconic melodies and support a local non-profit.
This was the second concert organized by Animal Aide Pontiac, a group that offers a discount spay and neuter program for the region. Organizer Katherine Morris said that the Shania tribute act, Annette Lafond backed up by her husband on the bass, was a hit when she played in Campbell’s Bay last November and was invited back for an encore.
“So many people asked for her to come back again, so we did,” said Morris.
Kicking off her set with the classic “Man! I Feel Like a Woman”, the crowd was singing along and eventually took to the dance floor.
Morris said that the work that Animal Aide does is crucial, calling the stray cat problem across the region a “crisis”. She estimated they’ve sterilized 115 animals since December.
“This season is really bad,” she said. “I probably get 20 calls a week for taking litters of kittens and mothers that are pregnant.”
Morris was confident that the evening would generate a sizeable chunk of their budget, as last year’s concert brought in several thousand dollars. The group’s next fundraiser will be a “Christmas on a bun” event.
