The sole occupant of a Campbell’s Bay home is safe after a house fire early Tuesday morning.
Campbell’s Bay-Litchfield fire chief Kevin Kluke said the department responded to the call on Front St. at 12:55 a.m..
“We arrived on the scene, it was fully engulfed,” Kluke said, adding that one person and a dog were already out of the house when the department arrived.
He said they managed to get the fire under control in just over an hour, and firefighters remained on scene spraying hot spots for several hours after.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, the department was still on scene. The roof and the entire back side of the building were burnt.
Kluke said it was thanks in part to the new combined service that the department was able to respond so quickly.
“More than 25 firefighters [responded]. A truck came from [Calumet] island, and one came from Bryson,” he said.
SQ communications officer Sgt. Marc Tessier said that officers were advised of the fire around 1 a.m. and left the scene around 4:30 a.m. after they had determined the cause was not criminal in nature.
Kluke said the cause of the fire was undetermined as of Tuesday morning.
“It appears [the fire] started from outside, but still undetermined,” said Kluke.
