July 3, 2021 and as of Jan. 10, 2022, the fire department has reached its goal of $30,000 for purchasing the rescue boat.
“We have a down payment, and we’ll hopefully be ordering by mid-February or sooner,” said volunteer firefighter Tracey Moore.
Ken Bernard, volunteer firefighter pointed out that the department already has eight people who are fully trained and waiting to get on the water. Moore also told THE EQUITY that they will also start a recruiting campaign for the Bristol Fire Department for anyone 18 years of age and older. She explained anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter can contact the municipality of Bristol.
Community members can also look forward to an official launch sometime in May, down by the Bristol pier, to thank the community and businesses for all their contributions.
Even from behind his mask it was clear Bernard was smiling and there was pride in his voice as he spoke of the support the department received from the community. “The whole department felt that the community has really supported us and got behind us, and then that was topped off by a couple of local businesses,” he said.
Moore highlighted that they are still accepting donations, which will be going towards necessary equipment, lighting, and suits. Contact the fire department if you are interested in making a donation.
