Pontiac Dec. 8 2021
Following up after the Dec. 1 article published in The Equity entitle Closure of Pontiac Obstetrics unit left local mother feeling ‘stressed’ and ‘overwhelmed’, a local advocacy group, the Woman’s Institute, raised the issues around the closure of the obstetrics unit at the Pontiac Hospital . . .
during the MRC Pontiac council meeting on Nov 24. The group will be circulating a petition that they hope will get as many signatures as necessary and garner enough attention to re-open the obstetrics unit. After gathering the signatures, the group plans on presenting it to the National Assembly of Gatineau.
For anyone wishing to participate the petition will be available to sign until December 24th, at all the local Municipal offices. Alternatively, people can also print it out and fill it with a minimum of ten signatures; and then deliver it to the MRC. The petition can be found on Warden Jane Tollers Facebook page.
The president of the Woman’s Institute, Beryl Smart said she hopes Premier François Legault will take the matter seriously and do something about wages to get more nurses and doctors into the area.
