PONTIAC Feb. 17, 2021
Overtime hours are up at all three of Pontiac’s public long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) according to the regional health authority’s documentation. The data was obtained by THE EQUITY through several access to information requests. This newspaper previously reported on . . .
soaring overtime costs at the Pontiac Hospital, both on Feb. 10, 2021 and Dec. 4, 2019. Back in January 2020, THE EQUITY also reported that overtime was on the rise in the region’s CHSLDs as well and the most recent documents confirm that they rose significantly in 2020. The data was broken down into three categories of employment, but the latest documents go further, breaking the hours down by each occupation. Again, nursing staff topped the list with the most overtime worked, along with support workers. At all three CHSLDs, the overtime hours nearly doubled between 2019 and 2020. At CHSLD Pontiac, hours jumped from 1,234.17 ($37,913.45) to 2,343.09 ($75,356.85). At the CHSLD du CAP, the numbers were similar, with 3,764.55 hours ($149,020.70) in 2019 rising to 6,032.45 hours ($237,163.78) in 2020. CHSLD Mansfield had a slightly smaller increase in hours from last year, going from 3,830.34 ($166,240.19) in 2019 to 5,098.87 ($229,965.35) the following year. This also represents a huge increase from the 2015 numbers. The CHSLD Pontiac only clocked 184.5 overtime hours that year, and the CHSLD Mansfield barely cracked 2,000. THE EQUITY reached out to the CISSSO for comment but they did not respond back in time for print.
