On Monday (Mar. 23), MRC communications advisor Francis Beausoleil announced that he was resigning, effective Mar. 31.

“For my part, I am leaving to take on new challenges, closer to home and directly related to my academic background and personal interests. I have accepted a position as a political analyst at an embassy in Ottawa,” he wrote in a farewell statement to his colleagues, which THE EQUITY obtained. “Since I will undoubtedly be asked this question, I would like to clarify that my decision was officially made before last Thursday’s Council meeting. That said, I was aware that discussions were underway at higher levels regarding the evolution of teleworking, and this context certainly influenced my decision.”

Beausoleil started at the MRC back in Sept. 2023, having previously worked as an executive assistant and office director for former Pontiac MP Will Amos, and as a special assistant to current MP Sophie Chatel.

Beausoleil, who commutes from La Pêche, said his contract allowed for three days per week of teleworking, and while he respected the mayors’ decision to end the practice, he thought the policy was a good way for the MRC to remain competitive as an employer.

“I think that if the MRC wants to attract talent, or people, especially for specialized jobs, telework is a good advantage and is a good way to recruit staff,” he said. “That’s one of the reasons why I chose to go to the MRC in 2023.”

MRC Pontiac warden Jane Toller wished Beausoleil well.

“I’m sorry to see him go but I’m also very happy for him about his new opportunity,” she said.
