Police are speculating that a fatal head-on collision in Clarendon on February 28 may have been caused by the victim suffering medical distress.
61-year-old Charles Argue of Shawville was killed when his mini-van crossed the centre-line on a straight, flat stretch of Hwy. 148 and collided with a logging truck heading in the opposite direction.
Sûreté du Quebec spokesperson Sgt. Eloise Cossette said that the theory police are now working with is that Argue suffered some kind of unspecified medical emergency in the moments prior to the crash.
“It could explain the reason [why] he switched lanes,” she explained in a message to The Equity, adding that Argue had been in the hospital due to respiratory issues a short time before the accident. “The only thing to confirm this would be an official autopsy result.”
In the story about the crash on the front page of last week’s edition, it was reported that Argue had to be extracted from the mini-van by first responders, as it was covered in logs from the other vehicle. These details were found to be false. The Equity apologizes for any confusion.
