The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two men in connection with the death of 39-year-old Greg Slewidge in the Township of Beckwith that took place in September 2020.
The two men Michael Clairoux, 47, of Nepean, Ontario, and Lee Marrazzo, 38, of Luskville, Quebec, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The OPP Detective Inspector, Chris Landry, made the . . .
announcement on Jan. 19 during a press conference.
In a video statement posted to the OPP East Region’s Twitter and Facebook, Landry said, “Our investigative goal since day one has been to provide resolution to Greg Slewidge, family and friends and ensure the safety of our communities. The serious charges laid in our ongoing investigation are a measure of our success. But that success is tempered by the impact this tragic loss has on Greg’s family. We again offer our deepest sympathies.”
On the morning of Sept. 24, 2020, Lanark County OPP officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at 1864 Scotch Corners Road in the Township of Beckwith. When they arrived they found the body of 39-year-old Gregory Slewidge. The victim had sustained blunt force injuries, but there was no sign of forced entry at the apartment which led police to believe that the accused persons and the victim knew each other.
What followed was a 16-month investigation, into the murder of Slewidge. At the time OPP launched a public-awareness campaign and announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who killed Slewidge.
The men in question appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on January 19, 2022.
“The creative and dedicated effort demonstrated by our members – assisted by members of OPP specialty support units and our law enforcement partners – make police leaders very proud. I thank and congratulate those who have participated to resolve this investigation by bringing charges before the courts. Well done,” said Deputy Commissioner Chuck Cox, Commander, OPP Investigations and Organized Crime in a press release.
OPP investigators were assisted in their investigation by officers from the Ottawa Police Service, Montreal police and Sûreté du Québec provincial police.
Although the two men are currently in police custody the investigation is still underway, Police urge anyone with additional information to call the dedicated tip-line at 1-844-478-5656, their local police service or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at https://crimestoppers.ca/send-a-tip/.
Police would also request the public and media continue to respect the Slewidge family’s privacy as they continue to grieve this loss in their lives.
