On Wednesday, volunteers from L’EntourElle women’s shelter took to the streets to raise awareness about . . .

the blight of domestic violence. Volunteers posted up on intersections in Shawville, Mansfield and Allumettes Island over the course of the day to hand out white ribbons, as part of a 12 days of action against domestic violence campaign which ran from Nov. 25 to Dec. 6.

Participant Ashley Nadeau explained that L’EntourElle provides emergency shelter for approximately 50 women and 30-45 children affected each year.

They also do follow up checks and provide a host of other services to battered women.

She said that the campaign wasn’t a fundraiser, rather a way of raising awareness through the spread of the white ribbons.

“Donations are always welcome, but that’s not why we’re here,” she said.
