After a unanimous vote during last Thursday’s special sitting of the MRC Pontiac Council of Mayors, Kim Lesage was appointed to be its interim director general (DG).
Lesage, a trained civil engineer, who currently holds the position as director of engineering and infrastructure at the MRC, will now also fulfill the duties of DG until a permanent replacement is hired to replace Bernard Roy, who resigned the position last week.
Lesage reportedly offered her services to Warden Jane Toller soon after Roy’s departure. She began her new duties on Monday, October 7, three days before she was officially appointed to the position.
“I’m willing to put in the extra time to make sure that . . .
there’s a good transition,” said Lesage about her new post. “Transparency is very important to me. The employees felt a little bit insecure not knowing what was going to happen next. And I think having me step up for the centre position makes people feel comfortable that it’s not somebody from outside coming in.”
Lesage explained the MRC Council of Mayors fast tracked her into the interim position because business as usual needs to continue, especially now with vitalization committee meetings, deadlines associated with the upcoming budget and the ongoing labour dispute with the SFPQ.
As to how she’ll balance her current responsibilities as director of engineering and infrastructure with her new responsibilities as interim DG, Lesage said:
“Luckily it’s a time of the year where I can kind of catch up on things. It’s a little bit slower construction in December and January, so this will give me the opportunity to jump right into helping out as an interim DG and to work on big files. There’s lots to work on, but it’s kind of good timing for me.”
Based on the enthusiasm the mayors demonstrated when voting for her, Lesage clearly has their support.
“Lesage’s appointment was a relief to us because now we know that everything will be running smoothly,” said Toller. “And we’ll be able to take our time and find a new director general.”
