A fire started by an outdoor wood furnace in Starks Corners prompted a response from . . .
the Shawville Clarendon Fire Department on April 21.
Four trucks and 12 firefighters responded to the call on Stoney Batter Road, which came in at around 8:15 p.m. and took about an hour to extinguish.
Chief Lee Laframboise said that they never really know the extent of a fire when they get the call, which is why they responded with as many trucks as they did.
“When we got the call it was for a garbage fire, but it was actually a bunch of [stuff] around a furnace,” he said.
He said that he was unsure whether the blaze was started by a creosote build up in the furnace or from nearby objects igniting, but added that they quickly had the situation under control without any issue.
