The first meal for Indegenous people, youth and seniors was hosted at the Lion’s Club in Campbell’s Bay on Thursday.

The meal was organized by the First People Innovative Centre (FPIC) in Gatineau in collaboration with Bouffe Pontiac, who were letting them . . .

use their kitchen to make some preparations.

Though their first scheduled meal was cancelled because it had originally been scheduled on Remembrance Day, the organization hosted their first activity on Nov. 18.

The meal was catered by Chef and owner of Ferme Livamia Vanessa Zhivkov. On the lunch menu were:

Salad made of julienned beets made with apple cider, honey and parsley on a bed of arugula.

Salmon with a cranberry glaze, ginger and caramelized onions.

Braised venison with mushrooms and mini banik breads.

Partridge chowder.

Organizers were disappointed with the lack of attendance for their first , but remain hopeful for the scheduled Nov. 25 meal that will be hosted at the Lion’s hall in Campbell’s Bay at 12:00 p.m. The leftovers from the meal were being donated to Bouffe Pontiac.

“With the lifting of the COVID restrictions we just re-started this project. We have done three activities at our office in Gatineau with our participants and elders from here,” said project manager Marie-Pier Labontée.

“The idea is to bring the elders and other people of the community together, meet new people, because we know that the elderly are often isolated. So we try to reach them to do fun activities where they can meet and eat together and just talk to each other” said Labontée.

“We already have eight people registered for next week’s meal, and we’re hoping for better participation.”
