At 5:25 am the Shawville Clarendon Fire Department rushed over to 230 Centre Street. A duplex was engulfed with flames by the time the firefighters were on the scene. It was a particularly difficult job because it was minus 23 when the firefighters were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Sûreté du Quebec police spokesperson, Sgt. Marc Tessier, confirmed that one man who was at the house was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and was able to inform THE EQUITY that the fire was not caused by any criminal activity.
The only thing that needed rescuing was a cat who belonged to one of the tenant’s. The cat was later found. Firefighters left the scene at around 8:30.
