PORTAGE DU FORT

Nov. 27, 2019

A local man is facing numerous charges after a drunken rampage in Portage du Fort on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 2:45 p.m., police were . . .

notified that a person was driving dangerously around the village, swerving and doing burnouts in their truck. The driver, a 46-year-old Portage du Fort man, also assaulted a person for no apparent reason.

By the time police located the truck, at the intersection of Rte. 301 and chemin Calumet, one of the tires had burst. The driver refused to stop for officers and led them on a slow, short chase northbound on Rte. 301. The driver surrendered shortly after turning onto a wooded path, due to the damage to his vehicle.

The driver was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his hands. He was released on a promise to appear at the Campbell’s Bay Courthouse, where he could face charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, assault, fleeing from officers, assault on an officer and mischief.
