On Friday, Shawville Giant Tiger made a donation of $1,300 to SDMHA (Shawville and District Minor Hockey Association).
The sizable donation was graciously accepted by SDMHA board member, Craig McCormick, who said, “We . . .
appreciate and need every amount of money we receive, especially since the pandemic began, because we’ve had a lower registration rate but the cost of registration has gone up.”
The fundraising efforts hosted by Giant Tiger included a ‘round-up’ campaign, where customers could round-up the amount of their purchases to whatever amount they wanted,” said the store manager, Brandyn Gauthier.
The cashiers also sold Giant Tiger mugs and Christmas ornaments to raise money for SDMHA.
Though the store normally sponsors a local hockey team, Gauthier said they enjoy showing additional support to the community by participating in several different fundraising events throughout the year.
“We’re one of the largest employers in the area, so we like to give back to the community to show our gratitude,” said Gauthier.
Though they were originally aiming for $1,000, both the organizers and the recipients were pleased to have surpassed that amount.
McCormick and Gauthier both have sons who play hockey and noted the significance of keeping the club active.
“It’s important for us and necessary to support groups like these because the kids need activities like this in their lives, especially now,” concluded Gauthier.
