On Thursday, members of the Syndicat des travailleuses et des travailleurs de la santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais – CSN (STTSSSO-CSN) held a barbeque outside the . . .
Pontiac Community Hospital (PCH) to give back to their members, who have been dealing with short-staffing over the summer.
The union includes members of housekeeping, administration, and many other roles in the health care field. Representative Christa Fleury said that they advocate for about 80 workers between PCH and the local long-term care facility.
“We’re here for supper too, so the people from the night shift, they’ll have a chance to come eat some food too,” she said.
Short staffing at local health care facilities has been a recurring topic in recent months, with a shortage of obstetrics nurses earlier this summer that was narrowly averted by the deployment of midwives at the eleventh hour. In addition, many other workers are feeling the squeeze during the summer months.
“Some weeks are better than others,” Fleury said.
