As Quebec restrictions ease up, federal public health officials are continuing to stress the benefits of face coverings.
In a press conference held March 18, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, said she expects a rise in cases of COVID-19 as public health measures are lifted in Canada, but said severe outcomes in . . .
the country should be manageable.
“Covid is here to stay,” said Tam but added that now there is more opportunity for in-person activities, gatherings or travel and added that some people might feel a sense of comfort while others might feel less at ease.
“From a public health perspective, we’re recommending what I would call vaccine-plus-other-layers for now, because we’re in a period of uncertainty where the virus is still undergoing evolution so getting up to date with vaccines plus wearing a mask is still a very good idea,” she said.
In a tweet on March 17, Quebec Health Minister, Christian Dubé, said he tabled a motion in the National Assembly to reaffirm the government’s desire to end the health emergency and to pass the bill quickly. “Unfortunately, all the opposition refused to present this motion,” he said.
