CAMPBELL’S BAY Aug. 18, 2017
The fire hall in Campbell’s Bay was jumping on Friday afternoon as the Campbell’s Bay-Litchfield Fire Department held its annual open house.
The department’s trucks were all lined up out front for the youngsters to play on and the garage was filled with seating for hungry Campbell’s Bay residents.
In the back, Raymond Shea, who was a founding member of the department back in 1957, was manning the grill, firing out burgers and hotdogs while corn boiled in the pots behind him.
Shea’s grandson Martin joined the department two years ago and was the organizer of the event.
“We do it every year, have a corn roast and a barbeque,” he said. “Everyone gets fed and gets to see the fire hall and all the trucks.”
He said the open house serves as a bit of public relations in addition to raising funds for the department.
“It’s important to get people to just know who we are, so if they’re in trouble or anything they can come to us,” he said. “It gets everyone to come out and have a great time.”
