Last Saturday, Fort-Coulonge hosted a car rally in support of the Centre-de-loisir-des Draveurs Century 21 Elite arena.
Participants spent the day searching for clues and earning points for a chance at winning a cash prize.
The event was organized by Mayor Sandra Armstrong and Joanne Allard. They spent over five weeks planning for the rally. “We have to . . .
drive around and we have to find clues and come up with a question,” said Allard.
Some clues were already a part of the area’s natural landscape, while some were planted by Mayor Armstrong and Allard. In the afternoon, participants were able to receive a clue by tuning into a local radio station at a specific time.
“It takes a lot of imagination,” said Armstrong. “We’re trying to organize things where people can have fun and still feel secure about COVID.”
Each participant paid a $20 entry-fee, with the proceeds funding the cash prize and a donation for the arena.
To avoid generating too much traffic, Armstrong and Allard alternated between two sets of questions for participants to answer.
Car rallies have been a long-time tradition in Fort-Coulonge and Mansfield-et-Pontefract for many years, but this is only the second one to be organized by the mayor and Allard.
Participants shared their excitement for the event. “We’re pretty excited to participate this year since it’s been two years since the last one,” said Brittany Gervais.
“We just love doing the rally,” said Lou Lou Laporte. “It’s an all-day entertainment for us.”
