A section of Chemin des Outaouais on Calumet Island is getting a much needed renovation.
The stretch being resurfaced is about 600 metres and extends north from the intersection in town. Work began on July 10 and is estimated to cost $570,600.

Mayor Jean-Louis Corriveau said that this was the third phase of road rehabilitation on the island and in addition to the pavement they would also be replacing waterlines and drainage pipes.
“We have a grant from the gas tax and we [invested] it there,” he said. “We’re going to put down about 400 metres of water line, 500 metres of drainage [pipe] and we’ll make another 500 metres of sidewalk.”
In addition, Corriveau explained that they would be adding a gazebo to create a small tourist stop next to the road.
Construction was handled by Nugent Construction Inc. of Luskville and Corriveau said it should be complete by the end of the month.
