For any Bristol residents who might oppose the presence of one man’s proposed commercial garage, Oct. 29 is the final day for submitting a request for referendum.
To qualify for a referendum, 12 resident signatures from any zone that is connected to the zone in question, RT-302, must be submitted to . . .
the municipality. The zone is mostly within Pine Lodge and it effectively borders chemin de Bristol and chemin River.
Bristol building inspector Isabelle Lajoie explained that a man within the zone wishes to use a secondary building on his property as a commercial garage solely for vehicle repairs.
“It’s not a big business that’s going to go up there, but [it will] at least give the opportunity to the owner to make business out of his residence.
“We did a public consultation to explain to our public what was the intention in this project,” Lajoie continued. “After the public consultation, the people that are against the project have the opportunity to request for a referendum.”
She added that one of the zones only has a few landowners within it, so in that case a referendum request would require signatures from the majority of residents within that zone.
Speaking to THE EQUITY on Oct. 27, Lajoie said that no requests had been filed seeking a referendum yet.
“[The] process is very short because it’s really rare that people qualify the zones.”
