On Friday, members of the Pontiac business community met at the Pontiac Conference Centre in Fort Coulonge to celebrate their accomplishments from the past year.
The sixth annual Business Achievement Awards Gala was attended by over 60 people and featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and tunes by local musician Simon Clarke.
A grand total of 61 nominations were received by the Chamber from the public, divided among eight categories: business beautification, business person of the year, farm enterprise, health services, new business, tourism, lifetime achievement and the 2018 feature – financial services.
Each applicant was reviewed by a panel of five judges.

Chamber of Commerce President Mireille Alary welcomed the attendees and introduced the night’s MCs: François Carrier of CHIP FM and Pontiac MNA André Fortin.
Ken Pack, the owner of Giant Tiger in Shawville was named business person of the year.
“I’ve got to thank you so much,” he said. “You work a lifetime and when you get a recognition like this, it’s very much appreciated.”
The lifetime achievement award went to Arthur Fleming, a former lumber man, landscaper and all-around handy fellow. Currently in his 89th year, Fleming still goes out to the bush every day, and operates Auberge Northfork in Chichester with his family.
