Dr. Richard Robinson, who worked as an anesthesiologist at the Shawville Hospital, was suspended for a year, beginning Oct. 25, 2021, for irreproachable behaviour towards a co-worker at the Montreal General Hospital.

Following an ad placed in The Equity on behalf of . . .

the Collège des médecins du Quebec, (an entity governing the physicians of the province) that indicated the suspension of Dr. Robinson after he pleaded guilty of the accusations in the presence of a disciplinary council, THE EQUITY was directed to the CISSSO media link for comments.

In an email exchange with the media department, this is what they had to say: “The anesthesia service receives support from the CISSSO anesthesia department and a support agreement for 12 weeks per year of replacement was signed with the CISSSO. This is the same agreement as the one in Maniwaki three years ago. This avoids being without anesthesia services. Although we will not comment on Dr. Robinson’s departure for reasons of confidentiality, his departure has no impact on the services offered to the population.”

According to a CBC News article, a respiratory therapist who filed a $360,000 sexual harassment lawsuit against Dr. Robinson claims she was harassed for more than three years.

Her accusations included receiving unwanted touching, photos and explicit texts of a sexual nature from Dr. Robinson. It began in 2013 and continued over a period of several years.

After going to a supervisor with her complaint, she claims Dr. Robinson was told to keep his distance but said the harassment resumed within months and did not stop until she hired a litigator.

The investigation is ongoing and hearings are scheduled to begin soon.
