On Thursday evening, Liberals from the region gathered on rue Principale in Mansfield et Pontefract as Pontiac MP Will Amos held the official opening of his campaign office.

Amos was introduced . . .

by his campaign manager Oliver Anderson, who said they had managed to fit in some door-knocking in the nearby neighbourhoods prior to the event.

“We’re not here by accident, we made a choice to come here,” Amos said. “It’s been a long time since a member, or even someone campaigning to become a member to have an office here in Mansfield. I’m proud to have done it.”

In 2015, Amos based his Pontiac campaign office in Shawville, and he took a moment to honour a vibrant, loyal volunteer who tragically passed away in 2018.

“It’s with regret that we won’t have [Peggie Sheppard] among us on our campaign team,” he said. “Peggie Sheppard was a really, really great woman, a great friend, someone who was a loyal liberal and she worked so hard in 2015 in our Shawville office. My heart goes out to her and her family. It’s a big loss for the community but also a big loss for liberals in the Pontiac.”

He went on to say that despite the pressure of running for re-election, he was looking for more than just votes in his travels around the Pontiac riding.

“At the end of the day, my objective is not just to win, my objective is to have a lot of fun,” he said. “I want to have a lot of fun doing this campaign, I want to build community with this campaign.”

“Democracy is about everybody that’s going to take the time to vote and we need to make sure more people vote in the Pontiac,” he continued. “That is crucial, we cannot allow people to get frustrated or feel as if they’re not being heard. That’s our job, to listen to people.”

He highlighted his priorities for the region, including improved access to high speed internet, as well as improving the lives of families and seniors, and urged those in attendance to donate funds and volunteer their time.

To close out the grand opening, local singer Michaela Cahill gave an exhilarating performance for the assembled party faithful.
