SHAWVILLE Jan. 27, 2021
On Jan. 21, the Pontiac Agricultural Society (PAS) held their annual general meeting via Zoom, electing a new executive and board of directors.
Without the Shawville Fair to occupy their time this summer, the group managed to stay busy, putting on a handful of events that were able to comply with public health measures. In addition, they decided to . . .
invest in their infrastructure by resurfacing the grounds and expanding the parking lot.
The PAS had been operating with an interim president, Vaughan Bastien, who had taken over from Charleen Moore late last year. The first item on the agenda was to elect a new executive committee.
Bastien stayed on as president, while Lisa Coles took over as first vice-president. Beth Knox-Campbell and Tyler McCann kept their roles as secretary and financial officer respectively.
There were five people nominated for the four vice-president seats, so the decision went to a mail-in ballot. The group also elected a crop of directors including newcomer Rayden Besharah.
To close out the meeting, Bastien said that he hoped they would be able to have some kind of activities this year.
“I hope I can be the president you want and have a great year,” he said. “I’d like to see something done at the fairgrounds, we have beautiful fairgrounds and hopefully the Quebec government will ease up a little bit so we can have something for the people to get out of the house and enjoy themselves.”
