Federal MP Sophie Chatel has announced follow-up consultations to the round table held on Sustainable Agriculture in the Outaouais and the Laurentides regions on Jan. 31.
Around 50 farmers and number experts participated in the roundtable which discussed the . . .
future climate of the region and how sustainable farming practices can address those changes, according to Chatel.
The report produced five areas of intervention, which will be the focus of government action. These areas include: water deficit management, reduction of nitrogen-rich fertilizers, green technological innovations, protection of soil quality and networking between farmers and local stakeholders.
“We wanted to test with the broader community to see if we got those areas right,” said Chatel. “The objective of the public consultation is to hear about everybody and make sure that we can indeed speak in the name of farmers in Pontiac.”
She mentioned that public feedback will be important in informing what she advocates for when budget priorities are discussed.
Chatel also hopes to plans to raise awareness of the consultations through local media.
