A local farm, La Paysannerie, has purchased the former M&R feed mill in Quyon.

The mill was purchased for $80,000, according to Pierre Said, Director General of the municipality of Pontiac.

La Paysanne plans to use the mill to produce flour for human consumption after they renovate the building and install new equipment, according to Isabelle Lajoi, one of the new owners.

Lajoie, who studied Architecture, is looking forward to restoring the Mill, which she considers a heritage building.

They also plan on building a store on the property, where they plan to sell maple syrup, meat, fresh eggs and eventually the flour produced in the mill.

“We also have a project for growing mushrooms, which will probably be in that building eventually,” said Lajoie.

La Paysannerie expects to have the mill operational in November 2022, and hopes to contribute to helping the region’s economy grow.

“The objective is to purchase local organic grains. So definitely the Pontiac will be able to provide us with that grain,” said Lajoie.

The county has been trying to sell the mill since 2020.

A tower used for firefighter communications which is currently on the property will have to be relocated, according to the county.
