With Covid restrictions still underway, and municipal buildings off-limits, the organization is trying to find a way to meet while respecting the Covid guidelines. “That’s why we’re trying to be very creative and find ways to allow people to get together in a way that is safe and fun for everybody,” said Francine Roch, the coordinator.

a strict schedule, they really are just hoping community members come out, hang out and have a good time.

Pontiac Youth Circle is offering free activities to youth 12 plus at the Luskville Recreational Park on friday nights from five to nine from Jan-March 2022. Youth can expect free snowshoeing, sleds, health snacks, and warm beverages.

“Our goal is really to be inclusive to everybody that wants to be part of these programs,” said Roch.

The Groupe Action Jeunesse started the Pontiac Youth Circle Project in 2019. The Project was presented to the Secrétariat à la jeunesse Québec, and was later approved for the “Projets jeunesse locaux” du Secrétariat à la jeunesse.

New to her position, Roch said she is excited to bring new and fresh ideas to the table for the youth of Pontiac. “I think when everything becomes greener, and everything melts, more interesting programming is going to be possible and available,” she highlighted.

Astropontiac will be joining Pontiac Youth Circle on March 11 for a night under the stars. Roch also pointed out that there is a possibility the municipality of Pontiac opens its doors to the use of buildings for the public after February 15. With that, Roch highlighted that they will be able to run their Tuesday Homework sessions from four to six p.m. at the Luskville Library, until the end of March. Pre-registration is necessary as spaces are limited.

Their hope is to one day have a dedicated youth centre in the area, and so through these events Roch noted they are trying to collect a list of people who want to participate and what everyone hopes the space to be in order for them to be able to focus their goals and provide the community with the programming they seek, highlighted Roch. “It’s just trying to create something fun for them that is safe, and really great for everyone.”

The organization is currently looking for volunteers to participate and help fundraise for their youth programs, noted Roch.
