The community has been a-buzz with the recent news of Clarendon farmer Ben Younge’s moment of fame in a Tim Horton’s steak and egg breakfast sandwich television commercial.

The commercial features Younge who represents . . .

beef farmers, and another gentleman from St. Marys, Ontario, representing egg farmers.

After they’ve gotten their breakfast sandwich the farmers who are parked parallel to each other, sit in their trucks, take a bite of their sandwiches, then lift them up to compliment each other’s produce.

When asked how it all came about, Younge said, “Well, I’m involved with a lot of different programs and organizations. The Quebec Beef Federation keeps track of all of our information, so I guess my name was basically just listed as a young farmer, nothing really special.”

“They reached out, and initially I think they were under the impression that I could do a French version as well. So that’s maybe why they came to Quebec. They wanted it recorded both in French and in English but I told them I wasn’t really comfortable doing the French version,” Younge said.

So they went ahead and recorded the English version and got someone else to do the French version, according to Younge, who is happy to represent Canadian farms.

“Canadian farms are starting to get a little bit more recognition and people are asking more questions about where beef is coming from. So we’re interested and open to educating the public about what we do and how we do it. We’re happy that people are interested,” Younge told The Equity.

They weren’t sure when it would be aired, so Younge says it was a bit of a surprise when it did.

“During my day on the set I kept trying to mention Shawville, Quebec, and our farm, Willow Hollow Farms as many times as possible, but they kept it out of the commercial,” Younge said with a chuckle,”but I’m glad they did reach out and used real farmers to actually do the commercial.”

Younge says since the commercial aired he’s gotten a ribbing from friends and family members who have been asking him for his autograph.
