Last Thursday the Pontiac Legion celebrated the opening of its poppy drive by making donations to several worthy causes.

The Poppy committee decided to donate a cheque for $500.00 to Squadron 653 Air Force Cadets to assist them in their day-to-day operations. 

The committee also decided with approval from the executive committee to assist Residence Meilleur in Chapeau with a cheque for $1,500.00. Accepting the cheque for them was Billy Archambault

Also, a cheque was donated to Les Amis du Manoir St-Joseph in Campbell’s Bay in the amount of $1500.00. Accepting the cheque was Angela Lance.

The four cemeteries who were granted $250.00 each are as follows:

St. Stephens Anglican Church in Greermont. Accepting the cheque was Chris Judd.

St. John’s Anglican Cemetery at Moorehead accepting the cheque wasJudy Campbell.

St. Alphonsus Parish in Chapeau to assist in building a fence to protect the grave markers at St. John’s Cemetery in Nichabeau. Accepting the cheque was Donna Gagnon.

Also the satellite cemetery on Jim’s  Lake Road c/o St. Pierre Roman Catholic Parish in Fort Coulonge. Accepting the  cheque was Father Fontanella.

Queen of Hearts Lottery

Previously $500.00 was given to the Tubman Seniors home in Shawville, and also $1000.00 to a family in “deep distress” in Danford Lake, according to Mona Woodstock.

A total of $7,000.00 was distributed in the Central Pontiac area in 2021 by the Royal Canadian Legion Pontiac Branch 162, Campbell’s Bay from the Poppy Fund.
