The Sûreté du Quebec (SQ) sent out a press release on Friday cautioning residents of an  increased police presence on roads, bodies of water and trails.

Increased patrols are due to the upcoming construction holiday from July 16 to August 1.

The construction holiday has previously represented the time of year when the most collisions occur. This is in part because of an increase in road traffic as one-third of Quebecers take time off during this holiday.

Following an accident that occurred during last year’s construction break where eight people were fatally harmed, the SQ are choosing to implement precautionary measures and ensure that proper safety protocols are followed. These protocols include the use of helmets when operating all-terrain vehicles, as well as a strong recommendation to wear personal floatation devices at all times when on boats.

The SQ hope that the following two weeks are safe and memorable. All updates will be available on the Sûreté du Quebec’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
