The Outaouais is teetering on the edge of its status as an orange zone as active cases continue to rise significantly, having more than doubled from two weeks ago.

Public health officials from the CISSSO said last week that the next two weeks would be telling as to the region’s colour status.

Active cases in the Pontiac service area (RLS) rose from . . .

eight last Monday, standing at 13 as of March 29. The cumulative amount since the pandemic began stood at 101, an increase of 13 from last week.

Within the Pontiac RLS, the Municipality of Mansfield et Pontefract cumulative total rose from seven to eight and the Municipality of Pontiac cumulative amount jumped from 47 to 56. Elsewhere, the Municipality of Shawville continues to have 11 total cases while the municipalities of Bristol, Campbell’s Bay, Fort Coulonge, Île du Grand Calumet, L’Isle aux Allumettes, Otter Lake and Waltham remain under the five or less (minimum one case) designation.

According to the CISSSO communications agent Patricia Rhéaume, “The outbreak at the CHSLD CAP [in Shawville] is well and truly over as of March 26.”

The Outaouais had 455 active cases (7,377 total, 6,750 recovered) as of March 29, which is up 169 from last week. There were 16 hospitalizations at the designated COVID-19 center, an increase of six from last week, with four of those being held in intensive care. The cumulative regional death toll was 172, with one death being recorded in the past week.

There were listed active outbreaks at three health care facilities: CHSLD Ernest Brisson, CHSLD Lionel Émond and Residence La Gappe.
