Due to concerns around COVID-19, there has been a huge increase in the number of parents opting to keep their kids at home.
According to the . . .
Western Quebec School Board (WQSB)’s Director of Education Stewart Aitken, there are currently 195 students across the board being homeschooled, compared to only 66 the previous year (an increase of more than 300 per cent). Parents had to register for homeschooling before July 1, by submitting a written notice of intent as well as a learning project for the child to the Ministry of Education as well as the WQSB’s education department.
In addition, Aitken said the board had also implemented distance learning program for students with medical exemptions, which they hope to have fully operational shortly. He said that currently there are 218 students registered for the program with another 28 students pending approval.
