CAMPBELL’S BAY
Sept. 19, 2017
At the most recent meeting of the Council of Mayors in Campbell’s Bay on Sept. 19, the contract for the third phase of renovations to the MRC offices was awarded to the Gatineau-based contractor LCC and Associates.
The contract went to tender back in May and comes with a price tag of $273,000.
During the meeting, when asked why the contract wasn’t given to a local company, MRC officials responded that none had applied.
Warden Raymond Durocher explained that work has to be done on the exterior shell of the old wing of the building, which includes replacing all the windows.
“We allocated the contract today and we’re trying to push it, the faster the better, because of the winter,” he said, adding that they hope to see some savings on the building’s heating bill.
Durocher was optimistic that the renovations would be complete in a little over a month.
“I’ll be generous, five weeks,” he said. “It’s not a lot, it’s changing windows, re-insulating the outside walls, general maintenance.”
The first phase of the project involved renovations to the licence bureau with the second phase being the construction of the new wing.
Durocher said that the planned fourth phase will involve the property around the building, paving the parking lot and authorizing the road access to Hwy. 148 with the MTQ, but added that the council would have to approve it in next year’s budget.
